Budget Small Garden Ideas – How to Create a Dream Garden for Less!

As spring and summer come and go, the momentary lapse in the classic British rain will always prove to be the perfect window to get your garden fit for future BBQs and get-togethers!

Having a smaller garden can also make redecorating a difficult job, with less space for furniture and plants! However, that doesn’t mean you can’t transform your gardens without breaking the bank! If you’re after budget small garden ideas, then you’ve come to the right place. Here are just a few ways to redesign your garden while watching the pennies.

Find Yourself a Bargain

It’s no secret that garden furniture can cost a small fortune. Mainly due to supply and demand, especially since the pandemic left us house ridden. But that doesn’t mean that you must spend a fortune to get good furniture.

Browsing through websites like Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace is a great way to discover little pieces of furniture gold (all in a convenient location!). Even if the pieces you find don’t quite live up to your taste, a quick lick of paint could fix many a sin and secret.

Grab a Paint Brush

One quick way of modernising any garden is to give your fence or wall a quick lick of paint. Whether it be white, grey, or whatever colour you fancy – a few coats later you’ll be glad you did it!

Newly painted fences and walls can transform a garden effortlessly, and you don’t need a fancy brand to achieve the look either. Give your fence or wall a quick brush down or even a good going over with a pressure washer to clean off any cobwebs or dirt and get painting.

Lights Up

Fairy lights are a great way of adding a cosy and luxurious vibe to your gardens. Whether you trail them around your fence or suspend them overhead, either method will give you a lovely evening glow that is both welcoming and calming.

Outdoor lights can be bought almost anywhere these days, and they don’t have to be fancy plug-in ones to get the desired effect.

Grow a Garden for Free

Ever find yourself throwing out more vegetables than you eat? Luckily, many can be grown from scraps! For example, seeds from plants like tomatoes, strawberries and chillies can be washed, dried, and replanted in soil. These can then be transplanted outside into containers!

You could also save the bottoms of spring onions and pop them in water to help them grow, or save the pit from an avocado to grow above a jar of water.

Freshen Up Your Displays

Adding colour to the garden can be as simple or as complicated as you like! Perennials and bulbs can be grown for yearly interest, whereas annual bedding plants are great for an instant zap of excitement.

If you struggle for space, patio pots and containers are a great alternative. Flowers like Daffodils and Tulips are great for growing in a spring-themed container, or bedding plants like polyanthus and pansies are ideal for hanging baskets. You could even give an old pot a make-over with some leftover paint, adding some extra colour to your new displays!
