Easy Flowers to Grow from Seeds

Flower seeds are generally easy to sow and grow. However, there are a select few that are easier than others to grow – perfect for beginners!

Seeds are great for growing an affordable garden. But if you’re new to sowing and growing seeds, it can be a bit daunting. To give you a helping hand, we’ve picked out our favourite beginner-friendly flower seeds. All of which will provide a gorgeous display with ease.

Cosmos

Cosmos seeds produce carpets of whimsical blooms throughout summer. Their daisy shapes and attractive shades help you add a much-needed burst of colour to the garden, regardless of where they’re grown. They attract pollinators in droves and can be sown directly outdoors once the threat of frost has passed.

Grow seeds like Cosmos Sea Shells mixed and Cosmos Dwarf Mix for an abundance of colour this summer.

Sweet peas

Although Sweet Peas need a bit of structure to thrive, sweet peas remain at the top of our easy flowers to grow from seed list. They not only provide impressive amounts of colour to the garden, but many provide glorious fragrance too. If allowed to climb, they certainly will! Train them up trellises, wigwams, obelisks, or fences – where they will climb with ease.

For your first sweet pea summer, try growing varieties like Sweet Pea Matucana or our Sweet Pea Spencer Mix.

Nasturtium

These blooms are truly bee magnets! Maybe it's their bright orange shades, or perhaps their fluted shape? Whatever it is, it works. Many gardeners grow Nasturtiums throughout their allotments, as they can lure pests away from your prized crops – especially cabbages and beans. These plants can be grown as climbers or can be left to their own devices, winding their way through a flower bed.

To start off, why not give our Nasturtium Gleam Hybrid Mix or Nasturtium Jewel of Africa a go?

Zinnias

Zinnias produce some of the most colourful summer blooms we’ve ever seen. They can be sown directly outside once all threat of frost has passed, ideal for those without a greenhouse to start seeds off early. These flowers thrive in sunny areas of the garden, so pop them somewhere where they’ll get plenty of sunshine throughout the day. They’re great for flower beds or flowerpots, a versatile plant that can be sown and grown in just a few steps.

Our Zinnia California Giant Mix and Zinnia elegans Dahlia Mix are great for growing a garden in abundance.
