J. Parker's Helps Welsh Hospice With a Garden Makeover

This June, some of our J. Parker’s team helped to put the finishing touches to the patient garden at St David’s Hospice in Llandudno, North Wales. We donated a new gazebo, planters, compost and hundreds of bedding plants to help finish off the garden which the St David’s team have lovingly built so that the patients at the hospice can enjoy an outside space full of colourful flowers.

J. Parker’s got involved in the project through our Chief Operating Officer Alex Woollard:

“Sadly, my Mother-in-Law passed away at the hospice in the summer of 2022.The care she received there, and the love and dedication shown by the nurses there was unbelievable.When I spoke to Emma about the garden they were working on, I felt delighted that we could help in some way and give something back to the hospice team and patients to show how grateful we are. The work of the hospice creates a community of people helping each other, and they continue to support my Father-in-Law through this difficult time. What they do means the world to the local community.”

St David’s Hospice ensures that the people of Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey receive the end-of-life care they deserve. The hospice is there to help the whole family, whether it’s providing therapy sessions to patients, social and financial advice, or counselling support. The hospice relies on the generosity of its supporters to allow this care to be given and to help run all the hospice services, which last year cost almost £6m. The supporters help in so many ways including purchasing at hospice charity shops, donating and taking part in fundraising events, buying raffle tickets and gifting through legacy giving.

Emma Owen, Clinical Manager at the hospice, said “We are very grateful to Alex and the team at J. Parker's for donating an outdoor gazebo to St David’s Hospice. The garden here at Llandudno is such an important place for our patients and having a gazebo will make it even more pleasurable for them. It will have many uses including for weddings, outdoor art therapy sessions and an area to sit under for shade and if it is raining”.

“The team here at the hospice have been working on improving the garden over the last couple of years, which initially started when we received a ‘Wildlife Garden Starter package’ from Keep Wales Tidy. Since then, we have received funding from grants and a private donation to make major improvements including garden furniture, planters and large flower beds. We also now have a team of volunteers who are passionate about gardening and have aptly named themselves ‘The Lawn Rangers’”.
