One of the UK's most well-loved wildflowers. Native to English woodlands, bluebells are one of the easiest plants to grow in the garden and will delight you for many years to come.

When do you plant bluebell bulbs?

The perfect time to plant bluebell bulbs is in the early autumn (September/October time). However, they can also be planted as late as November, if you’ve not had time to get them outside

Bluebells in the green can be planted after prime spring flowering, to help the plant establish. This can be done from March to June.

How to Plant Bluebells

Plant bulbs at least 10cm deep and 10cm apart (or roughly twice their depth and width apart), and make sure that the pointed end is facing upwards

Bluebells in the green are best planted in clumps of 3-4 bulbs. If you have more to plant, then separate them into these smaller groups before planting. Plant them up to where the white on the stem stops – this indicates their original planting depth

Dig the hole and position it upright, infill the hole, and water them well if it’s slightly dry outside.

When do Bluebells Flower?

Bluebells flower from from March, and can flower all the way through to May. This may depend on the variety, especially if you have Spanish bluebells in the garden, rather than native types.
