Verrone's Obsidian can be used to electrify your beds and borders, pair with zesty yellows for an eye popping display, or, if a sultry look is prepared arrange with deep burgundy's and purple flowers such as Astrantia Washfield and Hemerocallis Whoopy. Thrives in full sun and preferably in humus-rich, fertile, moist but well drained soil. They will need protection in winter, cover in milder climates or in colder areas lift and store for next year. Growing at a glance…

Dahlia tubers can be planted outdoors, 10cm deep in fertile well-drained soil in spring when the frost has disappeared. They prefer to be in a sunny location and spaced at approximately 45cm apart. In areas where there is extreme cold, dig up dahlias and store in potting compost over the winter. Apply a high potash fertiliser every few weeks in the summer to help growth. Dead head when necessary.
