The Top Garden Trends for Autumn 2022

Love to be in the know when it comes to the top gardening trends? We’ve got you covered! Summer is well and truly in full swing, and we love seeing everyone’s gardens in bloom.

Now is certainly the time to bask in the glorious colour that your displays are certainly producing at the moment, but have you given time to think ahead to autumn? Here are just a few garden trends for autumn 2022 that will keep your garden looking fresh until the first frosts.

Nature Above All Else

Rewilding is a huge movement, and it’s here to stay! By keeping your grass longer than normal this summer and autumn, you could give all kinds of critters a home before winter sets in.

There’s still time to sow seeds too. Plants like coneflowers (echinacea), penstemon, and hardy annuals like geraniums will flower towards the end of the season and into autumn, giving your garden that natural, fabulous effect.

To take your rewilding or ‘natural’ garden to the next level, simply scatter a mixture of seeds in the flower bed to get that naturally occurring vibe.

Gardens that Entertain

Over lockdown, redesigning gardens with furniture and firepits was at the forefront of our minds, mainly because we couldn’t go anywhere else! However, that trend continues, with over 60% of people visiting their gardens each day (according to surrey.ac.uk).

Adding a chair or two, maybe even providing some shade to escape from the sun (hello heatwave!), will make a huge difference to the comfortability of your garden. If you don’t use your garden as much as you think you should, making these small touches can make a huge impact.

If you’re keeping an eye on the pennies, places like Gumtree and Facebook marketplace are goldmines for secondhand furniture that won’t break the bank!

Vibrancy is Key

What’s the difference between a dull display vs a vibrant one? Colour! Adding plants to your flower beds and containers that have colour in abundance is certainly key to growing a garden that catches the eye.

Even if you prefer something understated with muted tones, adding in some pastel annuals can elevate the garden just enough to take it to that wow-worthy status. Even adding some evergreen grasses will bridge that gap between summer and autumn, providing long-lasting colour.
